Hello Playmates,
Firstly, many congratulations to our very own Christine G, whose Weedkiller Extra #18 comment was picked by our panel of judges from the hundreds of entries as being the most original and wittiest. Of course, Christine is no stranger to the world of merry mirth, cutting her comedy milk teeth at the annual Ffestiniog Festival Fun Week talent competition with her hilarious rendition of Dylan Thomas’ ‘Under Milk Wood‘. Her next big break came at ‘The Rubstick and Gastric Glassblowers and Pipe Blenders‘ Social Club in the Yorkshire Dales. Christine’s professionalism shone through as the preceding turn, a Charlie Williams tribute artiste, went down under a salvo of pork pies. Her act did however encroach on ten minutes of bingo time, but her winning smile and affinity with the audience saw her through, what could have been a potentially nasty incident, to win first place. Well done lass.
Cosmetic surgeons all over the U.S.A are mourning the passing of the comedienne and chat show host Joan Rivers, one of the greatest acerbic and self deprecating entertainers ever to tread the boards, who has died in New York at the age of ‘fifty seven‘.
Tony Blair, after recently being announced as philanthropist of the decade, has pledged to give away his millions as a gesture of contrition. Cherie is said to be ecstatic, and can’t wait to get her hands on his money.

Katy at Village Games says “the teacher says it is very much free style and will be adapted to the participants which turn up however saying that is aimed more at the parents and children (mummies and daughters dancing together etc) rather than an experienced dancer, however that’s not to say we could not introduce a further session, should there be the interest in the village.”

Today sees the start of the Wirksworth Festival, click here to visit the Festival website, tomorrow and Sunday having the Art & Architecture Trail. It’s always a fascinating way to spend a few hours or more.
Also our own A52s are playing there on Sunday afternoon (check out their Facebook page for times and locations).

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
So we managed to finish on a winning note in one league this week and the win in the other league keeps us on course to still get promoted. The difference this year has been the two new members we had, Sue and Tony A. Would that we could get a few more NEW MEMBERS.
Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Home – Ashwood Park – 2 September.
Last match of the season in this league and we wanted to end on a high. With some great play from Harry B and John B this was achieved, they won 21 – 5. Another win was Dennis and Clara E who sorted out the opposition 21 – 16. Although we lost the other two games our scores were such that we came out on top 76 – 63. We were fifth in the league before this match and our score will ensure that we stay in that position, up a place from last year. What will we do on a Tuesday evening? Watch the inevitable repeats on the idiot’s lantern.
Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Whitworth Park – 4 September.
Now the very scary thing is that three teams get promoted from this league and we are third, and after today’s result we should stay there. Our doubles teams winning well two of the three games and giving us a ten point lead 58 – 48. In the singles we won 5 out of the six games, with Sue A scoring best 15 – 5. The final score was 85 – 50. Because we were one player short (11 instead of 12) we had to accept a 3 point penalty. Thankfully this did not affect the final score which was Whitworth Park 98, Parwich 140. Only one more match to play, against the team who are second in the league. Should be interesting.

Badminton at Parwich Memorial Hall

Hello Possums,
Good news, the Parwich blog Nature Watch presenters, in conjunction with Weedkiller Weekly’s Hornythilogical team, will be publishing a lavishly illustrated calendar for 2015, entitled “Birds getting out of the bath“. Photo shoots will be held at the Legion, on a date to be confirmed. Interested?
There is still no sign of the large bouncy castle that disappeared from The Bentley Brook Hotel, prior to a family bank holiday fun day. The organizer and proprietor, Joe, told Weedkiller’s Raving Reporter that, not only did it prove a great disappointment for the children, the helium used to inflate it was extremely expensive.

Healthy food recommendation: Greek alphabettti spaghetti, rich in Omegas.
