Sessions run from 11am until 1pm, and new talent is most welcome. Tea, coffee and biscuits are supplied.

Car parks review process gathers pace
Several early provisional ideas have been dropped in response to public opinion as the process gathers pace to introduce a new car parks policy for the Derbyshire Dales by 1 January next year.
Derbyshire Dales District Council has now scrutinised extensive feedback from local residents, visitors, stakeholder groups and the trading community in a review process, including extensive public consultation, which began at the start of this year. Continue Reading »

Police are appealing for information after a burglary at a warehouse building on Dale Side (off Smithy Lane), Parwich.
Some time between 4pm on Thursday 29th August and 4.20am on Friday 30th August, entry has been forced to the building. A Harley Davidson Sportster motorbike was removed and found a short distance away.
Numerous Land Rover wheels and tyres have been taken along with a large amount of power and hand tools.
Several vehicles outside the building have also been broken into.
Enquiries continue, so if you saw anything suspicious, have CCTV nearby or any information, please contact PC 3047 Parker on 101, quoting crime number: 36489/13.

Many of them make a pilgrimage to the site where the first Zeppelin was destroyed by specially designed incendiary bullets. Wreaths of sausages are left by visitors, in memory of the millions of Germans, who were banned from scoffing their favourite Bratwurst, as the
cow skins were used in the manufacture of gas containers. So, if you ever wonder why airships have teats, there is your answer.

Volunteers are needed to help develop a digital media project at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.
Derbyshire County Council are looking for pioneering individuals, groups and organisations to test out a new approach to sharing access to the museum’s exhibits and artefacts.
The project, called ‘Collections in the Landscape’, is being funded with an £81,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and will enable visitors to walk in the footsteps of archaeologists and geologists to view artefacts in places where they were either made or found.
As visitors stand next to archaeological sites and famous landmarks they will be prompted to use their smart phones or tablets to download extra information such as images of what people in previous centuries would have seen when they visited.
Pilot projects will focus on three areas − Dovedale, Arbor Low stone circle and the town of Buxton itself. Users will be able to interact with these landscapes in exciting new ways such as exploring Arbor Low to see what ancient stone tools were buried below the earth, strolling through Dovedale using the museum’s fossils to reconstruct a shallow sea floor from 350 million years ago or standing in the centre of Buxton to see what traces generations of visitors have left behind – from the Romans to the Beatles.
Now ‘collections ambassadors’ are needed to help the museum test and develop the technology as well as share news in their local communities.
Councillor Ellie Wilcox, our Deputy Cabinet Member for Health and Communities said:
“We need local volunteers to help make this exciting project happen. This is a truly unique opportunity to be part of something that will transform the way collections at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery are displayed and experienced.”
Volunteers will be involved in the pilot stage 1 of the project. The results will form part of a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund in May 2014 for an additional £449,000 to fund the project for another three years.
Ellie Wilcox added:
“Although we’re exploring the potential of digital technology, this project will still be rooted in people power. The knowledge and support of the local community will be a key factor in taking the concept of Collections in the Landscape forward.”

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club
Well I should have known that after a good week last week we came down to earth with a vengeance! We did get back to the old regime of win one, lose one however, the loss was a really good one.
Matlock Tuesday League.
Away – Hathersage – 27 August.
So having got our best score of the year last week, we managed to collapse in a big way this week. The only consolation I suppose is that our opponents are top of the division and will be promoted so we won’t have to play them next year. That’s positive thinking for you! Edith and Rick did win one game, but our next best team only scored 7! The final result was Hathersage 82 – Parwich 39. It’s probably just as well we only have one match left.
Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Matlock Park – 29 August.
A couple more matches to go in this league and thankfully we are hanging in there. Our double pairs did us proud only trailing by 47 points to 49 with Ian J and John H winning well 21-7. This gave us a good platform. We did a bit better in the singles winning four out of the six. Our score was 84 out of a possible 90. The final result was Matlock Park 104, Parwich 131. This should keep us about half way in the division.

Please can someone identify my rapidly growing plant? I bought it at the Horticultural Society stall on Open Gardens day as an unnamed small plant in a pot. Since then it has threatened to take over! I think it might be a squash or pumpkin or something from that family.

Hello Possums
It’s Weedkiller’s Raving Reporter here, coming to you live from the Stockport branch of McDonald’s, where customers and staff are being subjected to bouts of antisocial behaviour from groups of youths loitering around the premises. As a counter measure, the management are playing classical music over the system in an effort to force the trouble makers to move on. This, to some extent, has proved successful, with the majority plaguing the nearby Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet instead. Ah, this chappie is obviously not shifting, I’ll try to communicate at his level: “Yo! My man, slap me five. Is yo’ walking de walk and talking de talk, bro’? Is yo’ cool wid da toons, dude? Does Chopin float yo’ boat boat! Is yo’ in de gang man, and hot wid de chicks?
Over to yo’ bro’.” “Are you crazy, I happen to be the manager here, and if you will get that microphone out of my face, I’d like to get to work ‘Dude’.”

At Cromford Wharf Yesterday. The canal boat was all ready to go, but the nesting coot in the middle of the boat’s turning circle prevented the boat from going more than a few yards down the canal. Attached a few shots to show the flavour of the place. John FS
Today and Bank Holiday Monday are good days to visit as the nearby Leawood Pumping Engine will be under full steam.
